Trump expands travel ban to 12 countries
President Donald Trump has reinstated and expanded a controversial travel ban affecting citizens from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Haiti, and Venezuela. Citing national security concerns, Trump stated that these measures are necessary to “keep America safe.” Partial restrictions were also placed on travelers from Cuba, Nigeria, and others.
The decision sparked backlash from immigrant communities, legal organizations, and international leaders, calling it discriminatory and politically motivated.
Feud with Elon Musk escalates
Trump’s relationship with Elon Musk, once a political ally, has rapidly deteriorated. The turning point came after Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which removed EV subsidies. Musk criticized the move publicly, calling it a betrayal to the future of clean energy.
In response, Trump hinted at revoking federal contracts awarded to Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. Musk has since backed calls for Trump’s impeachment.
Trump and Xi Jinping restart communication
In a significant move, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a 90-minute call to restart bilateral relations. Both leaders agreed to resume trade talks and coordinate state visits.
The call focused on reducing tariffs and increasing access to rare earth materials. The White House described the conversation as “constructive and forward-looking.”
Trump hosts German Chancellor Friedrich Merz
At the White House, Trump met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The leaders discussed NATO funding, Ukraine, and transatlantic trade. Merz urged Trump to take a firmer stance on Russia.
Trump, however, reportedly suggested “letting Russia and Ukraine fight it out a bit longer” before enforcing any peace negotiations — a comment that stirred controversy across Europe.
Trump orders investigation into Biden’s cognitive health
In a surprise move, Trump ordered an official review of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive condition during his time in office. Trump’s team claims that if Biden knowingly hid mental decline, key decisions and pardons from his term could be legally invalidated.
Critics called it a politically charged attack on the former administration.
Market reaction
Tesla stock dropped 10% following Trump’s aggressive stance toward Musk, erasing nearly $150 billion in market value. At the same time, the US dollar weakened slightly after renewed trade optimism from Trump’s call with Xi Jinping.
