Ethereum has reached a new historic milestone: more than 35 million ETH are now staked on the network. This represents the highest amount of ETH ever committed to Ethereum’s proof of stake mechanism since its transition from proof of work.
This surge in staking reinforces growing confidence in Ethereum’s long term security and economic model. With a total circulating supply of approximately 120.2 million ETH, this means that nearly 29% of all ETH is now locked in staking contracts.
In contrast, about 85.2 million ETH remain liquid and tradable on the open market. This distinction between staked and freely circulating ETH plays a major role in Ethereum’s supply dynamics and could become even more relevant in the months ahead.
A significant catalyst looms on the horizon: the potential approval of an Ethereum staking ETF in the United States. While Ethereum ETFs for spot price exposure have already stirred the market, a staking focused ETF would open institutional access to ETH yield without requiring direct blockchain participation.
If that ETF gains approval, we may witness a rapid acceleration in the amount of ETH staked, driven by asset managers, pension funds, and large scale investors looking to earn passive yield through a compliant and simplified vehicle.
This evolution is more than a technical metric. It signals that Ethereum is becoming an increasingly scarce and yield generating digital commodity, positioning itself as both a programmable settlement layer and a macroeconomic asset.
